Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about comparing texts online.

How does the text diff tool work?

Paste your original text in the left box and modified version in the right. Click Compare to see additions in green, deletions in red, moved lines in blue, and word-level changes inline.

Is my text sent to any server?

No. All comparison happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Comparison text is processed on your device. If you share a link or export, anyone you send it to can read the included text.

Is this tool free?

Yes, completely free. No signup or account. Compare up to 200,000 characters and 5,000 lines per side.

Can I compare large documents?

Compare up to 200,000 characters and 5,000 lines per side. Large or repetitive edits may use broader highlights, while keeping every character. For very long results, use HTML export; image and PDF exports have a height limit.

What file types can I upload?

Upload .txt, .js, .ts, .py, .json, .html, .css, .md, .sql, .xml, and .csv files using the Upload File button on either panel.

How do I share a diff?

Choose Share texts only to copy a link containing both input texts. To include automatic line explanations in a download, turn on Explain changes before exporting HTML, PDF or an image.
